Miniature quilt!

That's what I've been working on!  Miniature quilt from Terrie Sandelin's Miniatures in Minutes.  Didn't exactly take minutes - more like 2 days - but it's SO COOL how everything lines up so beautifully!  I've since picked off all the backing paper (used just computer paper - wasn't sure if I'd even like doing it, so didn't buy fancy supplies - but I think her recommendations of alternate materials are probably wise) and am waiting to figure out what to do with the finished product.  And how to quilt it.  A few of the seams are borderline not there (I wasn't sure how to place the triangles, as all the illustrations showed only vertical seams and then just said to keep piecing the rest, so some of the seam allowances got too large in some places and much too small in others), so in-the-ditch quilting is probably not wise.  Perhaps just along the grid (in the middle of it)? or diagonally across the triangles?  Either way, it was fun!

Martini Record

What do you think - make a journal of interesting mixed drink recipes?

The paper entertains me. The insides are standard linen resume paper, hand-torn, very nice.

Sewn with waxed linen thread.
Zooming in on these two pictures (shadows heightened in the lower one), you can see the difference in the sewing -- this book was sewn with single-needle coptic style sewing; the florentine book below was two-needle sewing, and I think it looks a lot more even.

Tutorials, of course, can be found through the links at TJBookarts' website.

Green miniature book

Again, blurry dying-camera shot, but you can see my little book's structure.  Case bound, linen resume paper, headbands from France, paper from odds and ends lying about... very fun little blank book.

I like this paper - it looks and feels like snakeskin.

Love the way the marbled paper turned out in such a tiny segment.

My hands look so big!  It's about an inch across and 1 1/2 or maybe 1 3/4 inches tall.  It, like the red one, is available in my shop.

Red miniature book

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures - the camera was dying.

Looks like leather, actually is paper.

Real marbled paper, off-cuts from a larger book.  My hand gives you some sense as to size -- it's about 1.5 inches by 2.5 inches.

Six signatures of linen resume paper, headbands from france, case bound.  And very fun to make.
Along with the camera battery going, my internet has been out for the past two days... meh.  So, editing the scheduled post from work on my break (I'm a good girl, don't blog when I'm supposed to be working, but a 1-paragraph edit in my afternoon break is fine).  Hope it gets back up soon... although I'll probably get more of the house cleaned tomorrow if it's not!

Miniatures

More detailed pics to come; this was the best one, though, so showing it off first.

Book Fair!

I'm going to the Book Fair!

Here are some of the little books I'll be selling (some of which have made an appearance here before -- I love the little one with the house on it!)...And here are my little earrings!
If you're in the Houston area, hope to see you there!

Tiny Sister Books

I didn't get much done with the power out (didn't feel like doing anything but reading by candlelight), but here are two little offerings, at least one of which is going to my sister.

(Little, in this instance, means 2 3/4" by 2".)

This little one is the longstitch-and-linkstitch concept used over a nice twotoned heavy handmade paper. I wish I knew how the twotoning works -- it's red on one side and purple on the other. We tried both directions, but it works best with the red out.

And here's my other, a very simple little blue-covered coptic blank book:
Hope you like them!

Silvery-purple-paisley coptic minibook

This is such fun paper -- the purple is very deep and rich and flimsy-feeling, and the silver's all shiny and lovely and happy. This is the first time it occurred to me to use my colored crochet thread, and I'm very pleased with the way it accentuates the spine.

Tiny Book Earrings

These are my first offering. I'd seen tiny book earrings, and thought I could try the same. I first made a pair twice this size (about 3/4" by 1"), and realized they were much too large; they were also only one signature (these are four each). So, made a handful of smaller ones -- a leopard-print pair like this one and a red-bound pair were both snapped up by co-workers. It's a pain working so small, though! But I've now bought a smaller needle, so things should go better in the future. My adviser tells me I should put on some headbands and be sewing these on tapes ... maybe in the future! I tried other earring findings, rather than the kidney style, but couldn't get them to work -- I suppose I'd need actual jewelry-making tools for that (making little wire loops through the spine, etc.).
